Whale sharks

We have been out of Internet range for nearly the past two-weeks (and away from showers for nearly as long). We are now in Port Hedland and have taken the opportunity of coverage to update a number of blogs (and shower). Heading towards Broome tomorrow. Needless to say, we have fallen in love with Western Australia.

This time of year the whale sharks visit Ningaloo Reef. We (sans kids) managed to dive with these giant fish. It was a little dry-in-the-mouth, knot-in-the-tummy type experience. The whale shark always have an entourage of pilot and sucker fish and swim about a metre below the surface. They seem to swim with a gentle sweep of the tail but we had to flipper like mad to keep up with them. Exhausting but exhilarating! BTW they eat plankton and anchovies.

Us (calm and relaxed)

Look carefully
